Rotax Pan Am: Daniel Formal Unstoppable in Rotax DD2 Final

Super Sunday has arrived at the Rotax Pan American Challenge in New Orleans, Louisiana! The final day of competition at NOLA Motorsports Park was once again held under very hot and humid conditions as drivers hit the track seeking victories and final tickets to next months Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, held back here in New Orleans.

Aside from a hiccup in his first heat race where he lost the floor pan of his TonyKart, USA’s Daniel Formal has dominated the Rotax DD2 class at the Pan Am Challenge. And Sunday was no different.

Sunday’s Final saw Formal lead from the pole-position, benefiting from a tough start for off-pole Pier-Luc Ouellette (CRG), and simply drive away from his competition. While Ouellette struggled to get in line, Belgiums Xen de Ruwe (CRG) moved into second, with the next four positions held by Canadians. Alessandro Bizzotto (CRG) slotted into third, with Maranello teammates Fred Woodley and Brendon Bain in fourth and fifth, and Ouellette back in line in sixth.

Ouellette was charging back towards the front, as Woodley and Bain tangled together moving both drivers down the order while Bizzotto maintained a top-five spot. Although Ouellette was able to track down de Ruwe, he wasn’t able to make a pass on his new PSL/CRG teammate by the finish. Formal completed a stellar weekend with de Ruwe and Ouellette beside him on the podium. Bizzotto scored a very impressive fifth place result behind Ferenc Kancsar (CRG), with Bain and Woodley finishing ninth and thirteenth.

Many of the drivers in DD2 will be back for the Grand Finals, setting up what should be a thrill battle when everyone is aboard the same CRG chassis.
