Rotax Can-Am ProKart Challenge Opens Registration for 2014 Season

Momentum is certainly building for the Rotax Can-Am ProKart Challenge, as the second season is just a month away from kicking off. In 2013, racers from up and down the western half of the United States and Canada enjoyed a competitive and unique four-event debut series, visiting familiar and established facilities that provided an exciting eight rounds of racing. An experienced staff, guided by veteran racer Mike Rolison, is aimed at once again providing a professional and fun atmosphere for all ages to enjoy during the summer months. Registration has just opened for this year’s series and all feedback points to bigger fields and great times.

“I can’t thank our sponsors and supporters enough for making the inaugural season what it was,” stated Rolison, the series promoter. “We really want to build a long-lasting program here in the Northwest. Our goal is to bring together the best racers possible, provide a well-organized event with respectable personnel, while still making it that family-fun atmosphere we all enjoy in karting. People got a taste of what we can offer last year, and it’s only going to get better in 2014 and

One is a $50 discount to any first-time Can-Am racers – the promo code is firstcanam. The second is a $100 discount to register for the entire season (promo code: all4). Prices have also been lowered for the Mini and Micro Max divisions for 2014.

Format for the series championship will be similar to that of the inaugural season, with the Rotax Max Challenge categories racing over four weekends, including eight rounds. The final point standings will be calculated using the best seven point totals. Superkarts! USA racers are scheduled to contest only the final three weekends, which includes six rounds of racing with only the best five results being counted towards the championship chase. Each weekend will include an official practice day on Friday, and two rounds of action on Saturday and Sunday. Each round of racing includes warm-up, qualifying, Prefinal and Final sessions, all with plenty of track time and laps for each category. All four facilities are offering ‘Race Week’ practice days prior to Can-Am weekends, for roughly a $45-55 per day fee.

The Can-Am ProKart Challenge portion of the series serves as a regional ProKart Challenge program for Superkarts! USA. All five of the Stock Moto categories are offered at the three Can-Am PKC weekends, beginning at the Mac Track. The Can-Am racers have the opportunity to be part of the 2014 Superkarts! USA SuperNationals Priority Pre-Entry Program, which will ensure their spot in the event come November. Also, SKUSA class champions at the Can-Am ProKart Challenge have the opportunity for a guaranteed starting spot on SuperSunday at the SKUSA SuperNationals in Las Vegas, provided the minimum entry numbers are reached.

The Can-Am Karting Challenge, serving as an international Rotax Max Challenge program, has once again secured four tickets to the 2014 Rotax Grand Finals. Class champions in Senior Max, DD2, DD2 Masters and Junior Max will each earn a ticket to the ‘Olympics of Karting’, with the location and dates to be announced. The Can-Am program also serves as a United States Rotax Max Challenge series, where racers in all seven USRMC categories can earn their ‘punches’ toward qualifying to be part of the 2014 United States Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals, which will return to the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah on July 17-20.

New to the Rotax Can-Am ProKart Challenge for 2014 is the addition of the Briggs & Stratton LO206 engine package. One race group – which will include Senior, Masters, and Junior competitors – will be added to help fuel the growth of a popular American-made powerplant that is currently being offered at Canadian clubs and events, along with many club and regional programs in the United States. Race entry will be $175, which includes Friday practice in addition to the Saturday and Sunday rounds of racing. New racers will

have the opportunity to rent a limited supply of Briggs LO206 engines from the Can-Am series as part of their entry fee. For just $325, a driver will receive a race-ready engine (including clutch and exhaust), along with a three-day weekend entry. The MG HZ ‘Red’ compound will be the spec tire for all three LO206 categories, and both CMC and Kart-O-Rama will be trackside to provide tires and Briggs support.

“My decision to add the LO206 program is to help provide a place for local racers to come out and race with us,” continued Rolison. “I want them to get a feel for high-caliber competition while racing for some cool awards that we hope to announce soon.

The opening rounds of the Rotax Can-Am ProKart Challenge will also offer an Open Shifter category on the weekend. Racers of all forms of shifter, from ICC, to Spec ICC, modified Moto, and Stock Honda are invited to compete together in one ‘local option’ class during the Horn Rapids Kart Track event.

“With the Superkarts! USA SpringNationals taking place in Dallas the weekend after out opener, we did not want to force our Stock Moto racers to open up the regional season right before one of the biggest races of the year,” Rolison added. “Tri-City has a solid shifter group, so we want to welcome them to race as their season will just be getting underway as well. It’s open to anything, as we’ll make it a ‘run what you brung’ type of race group. Our goal is to introduce the Can-Am program to more racers this year after a solid inaugural season.”

The Rotax Can-Am ProKart Challenge will head to the first stop of the 2014 season at the Horn Rapids Kart Track on April 25-27. A new facility for the series, Horn Rapids is home to the Tri-City Kart Club in Richland, Washington. A long frontstretch is matched with fast sweeping corners in the infield, so competitors of the Can-Am program will be challenged throughout the opening weekend.

The remaining events on the 2014 schedule take competitors to three notable circuits for karting in the Northwest region. Following the opener at Horn Rapids is a return to the McMinnville Kart Track
