Matthew Latifi, a member of the Sofina Foods Drivers’ Development Program and the Ferrolati Corse Karting Team will carry solid momentum into this weekends’ pivotal rounds of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. Latifi was able to double up on the podium results at Mosport International Karting, taking a win and third place finish at the opening two rounds of racing action. Helping to add to the points tally, Latifi was able to take the win on both the Saturday and Sunday prefinals. The strong results in the very challenging weather conditions that plagued the weekend, has Matthew grabbing 470 markers to hold onto top spot heading into this weekend.
“Matthew is doing a great job and the results at Mosport were fantastic,” comments David Tennyson, coach for Latifi. “He and Steven (Chapman) have been working really hard and the program is very strong.”
This past weekend the duo of Latifi and Chapman headed to Goodwood Kartways for a test and tune event. Making the most of the Tony Kart package and Ogden Engine power, Matthew was able to take the win in the final and most importantly, set a strong base line for this weekend’s racing action.
“I continue to be impressed with how quickly Matthew is learning,” continues Tennyson. “Matthew has done a great job developing his skills and race craft. He continues to face challenges on the track and is able to work through them. Goodwood is a very different track to Mosport and I am very excited to see how Matthew adapts.”
The Eastern Canadian Karting Challenge stop at Goodwood Kartways kicks off on Friday with official series practice followed by a full calendar of racing on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Sofina Foods Drivers’ Development Program was created to help Canadian karting series offer young drivers a goal and a prize to work towards. In 2010 and 2011, the Sofina program supported the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship as well as Team Canada drivers going to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals.
