PR: K&K Kart ASN Canadian Karting Championships Recap

By: K&K Kart

The K&K Team headed to Goodwood Kartways for the ASN Canadian Championships recently. The team arrived with a little added pressure, as K&K drivers were favoured to win all three Briggs and Stratton classes, with Jordan Latimer in Junior, Jon Treadwell in Senior and Keith Barrick in Masters. Team owner Kevin Barrick said, “that while K&K is thankful for the recognition as the karts to beat, it is a tough expectation for our drivers to live up to, given the number of top competitors. We have achieved this status with all the hard work we have put in over the last 5 years developing K&K.”

While the K&K Kart team has enjoyed countless wins at ECKC, BSRKC and ASN National Championships, and had 4 drivers in the TOP 5 at this National event, K&K had it’s share of on track incidents, technical issues and just downright bad luck at Goodwood. K&K Kart North America was also the Title Sponsor for the Briggs and Stratton Senior class, which had an incredible 38 entries.

In B&S Masters, veteran karter Keith Barrick, fresh off a Bear win at BSRKC, set the pace from the get go. Superpole, two Qualifying heat wins, and a prefinal win put Barrick on the pole for the final. As luck would have it, and after dominating all sessions leading up to the final, a slipping clutch relegated Barrick to third, for majority of the final. The handicapped Barrick timed his move to second on Durkac perfectly, and closed to the slowing Macarthur’s bumper with 2 corners to go. Barrick almost managed the win, but had to settle for 2nd by a scant 0.076 seconds.

In B&S Senior, ECKC points leader and overwhelming favorite, Jon Treadwell was on the pace from the onset. However, an “out of the draft” qualifying session set up Treadwell in 12th spot for the qualifiers. With a long day ahead of him, a number of on track incidents kept Treadwell from advancing to the top 5 in the qualifiers, and a contact DQ in the prefinal set up Treadwell for a tail end start for the final. After team discussions, and an ailing engine change, Treadwell set out on a mission in the final. Team owner, Kevin Barrick said “we just as easily could have packed it in with the bad luck he had, but we all know what Jon is capable of . That’s why he is the #1 K&K Team Driver.” In the final, Treadwell moved through the field with ease, picking up 25 spots on the way and set fast time of the race, for a Top 5 finish. He was credited as being the “Hard Charger” of the entire event. Kyle Edgar, Treadwell’s teammate had a great run going, starting 4th in the Final before getting moved down in the order, after being involved in some on track incidents.

In B&S Junior, another favorite Jordan Latimer had a trying weekend with engine problems, on track incidents and setup. He persevered and came home with a 7th place finish. It was teammate Andre Fiorini, who broke into the top 5. While Fiorini’s luck wasn’t much better, after being wrecked in both qualifiers, he drove from the back of the pack in the prefinal to a 4th place finish. He had a good final and finished inside the top 5.

The K&K team travels to Mont Trembalnt next week, for the final round of the ECKC, where Jon Treadwell and Marc Stehle sit comfortably 1 & 2 in the B&S Senior points standings, and hope to wrap up the ECKC Championship. In B&S Junior, Latimer and Fiorini both sit inside the top 5 in points standings and with a win, Latimer could wrap up the ECKC Championship as well.. While Keith Barrick has not run any of the ECKC events, he is fairly confident he can take the win in B&S Masters, after just missing the ASN Natioanal Title by .076 seconds last week. Teammate Kyle Aulenback will also contend, coming of f a 4th place finish at the Nationals.
