Veteran karter Keith Barrick, coming fresh off a BSRKC Bear Win at Shannonville a few weeks ago, headed to Goodwood for a run at the ASN Canadian National Briggs Masters title, this past weekend at Goodwood.. Coming out of retirement, after 5 years out of the seat, Barrick won the Bear at Shannonville, in his first outing on his K&K Cobra OTB.
At Goodwood, Barrick totally dominated the Briggs Masters field with a Super Pole Qualifying, 2 Qualifying Heat wins and a prefinal win, while setting fast time of almost every session on the track. Starting from the pole in the National final, the bad luck of a slipping clutch put Barrick into third off the start. Barrick, trying to compensate for the slipping clutch, bided his time, waiting for the right opportunity to move up. With 2 laps to go Barrick made a nice move to go by the defensive Durkac for second, and closed to leader Macarthur’s bumper with 2 corners to go. A drag race to line gave Macarthur the win, by a mere .079 seconds, and Barrick had to settle for 2nd place. Barrick’s K&K teammate, Kyle Aulenback finished 4th.
While Barrick congratulated Macarthur on the win, he was disappointed with the bad luck, after such a dominating run. Barrick said, ” his K&K Cobra performed flawlessly all weekend “. ” There’s always next year “, he states.
