“Return to ECKC racing action has second year Junior looking to extend his championship points lead at famous karting venue just north of Toronto.”
Gianfranco Mazzaferro, a member of the Ferrolati Corse Karting Team and the 2013 Canadian National Junior Rotax Max Champion, always enjoys entering the gates of Goodwood Kartways, the site of many great victories by so many legendary racers. Goodwood was the site of GF’s national championship run in 2013 and the talented teen looks to keep that record going and use his opening round momentum to build on his points championship title run. At the opening weekend of Canadian kart racing GF took top spot in all the racing action at the Mosport International Karting Complex, site of the first two rounds of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship (ECKC). Now the series top talent turns their focus to rounds three and four of the six round series.
“I’m always stoked to head to Goodwood,” smiles Mazzaferro. “I love the track and I have really learned how to race here over the years. It’s a classic karting track and very different from Mosport or Tremblant. Heading into this weekend we will focus on race pace and look to stay out front in the championship.”
GF and coach/tuner Will Allen are back on Canadian soil following a challenging run at round two of the Rotax Euro Max Challenge taking place at the Casteletto kart track in Italy. While the duo did not secure the results that were hoped, the learnings will carry over to their next European adventure next month.
“Casteletto was rough, but a great learning experience,” continued GF. “It’s elbows up racing in Europe and I really worked to protect my position, but it didn’t always go to plan. Looking ahead, this type of racing is important to our future racing program.”
Event testing for ECKC takes place on Friday followed by a double-header calendar including qualification, prefinal and final races on Saturday and on Sunday.
