In preparation for the upcoming Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SpringNationals, Benik Kart would travel to the Dallas Karting Complex last weekend to compete in the opening round of the Texas Pro Kart Challenge (TPKC). With only two drivers under the team tent, the results remained the same as in the first quarter of 2014 as the duo came home with three pole positions, two main event victories and a total of four podium results.
“We travelled to Dallas early to prepare for the SpringNationals,” explained BENIK Kart’s Nick Mitchell. “Learning the track and testing kart setups went extremely well throughout the weekend and we were able to add more results to our 2014 total. Next weekend will be the big test and I know that our drivers and their mechanics are up for the challenge.”
Both David Morales and Lachlan DeFrancesco would
see action in Vortex Mini Rok powered TaG Cadet division as well as Rotax Mini Max. Morales showed his strength in Mini Rok by
sweeping Saturday’s competition. Scoring the pole position and two heat race wins, the young Floridian made a last lap pass for the lead in the main event to secure the victory. Sunday would once again see Morales on pole but he would end the day with a second place result.
DeFranceso would score the pole position in Saturday’s Rotax Mini Max competition and hold station throughout the day. Utilizing the Rotax package for additional track time and testing, DeFrancesco secured the main event victory and gained confidence heading into this weekends SKUSA SpringNationals. Back on track Sunday and skipping the prefinal to concentrate on his Mini Rok setup, DeFrancesaco would charge from the tail of the field during the main event to a solid second place result.
Mitchell continued, “We learned a lot last weekend and are ready to hit the track this weekend. With four drivers under the BENIK Kart tent, we will look to keep the momentum moving forward.”
With Morales and DeFrancesco already gaining experience on the challenging Dallas Karting Center facility, they will look to help fellow BENIK Kart drivers Lance Fenderson and Derek Carmenate this coming weekend. With the latter two unable to make the trip to test, Friday’s test sessions will be important to ensure a successful weekend.
