The Rotax DD2 class has gained a little extra competition for the next round of the 2013 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. Two-time Rotax Grand Finals DD2 World Champion Pier-Luc Ouellette has reunited with powerhouse PSL Karting to campaign at select events in both the Rotax DD2 and Rotax Senior classes for the remainder of 2013.
“My season is busy this year with the buisness so we are planning to run the ECKC and the Canadian Championships at Goodwood, and if its possible to run the Rotax Pan Am Finals also and hopefully the Rotax Grand Finals,” smiles Ouellette when contacted by CKN.
After a very disappointing 2012 Rotax Grand Finals in Portugal, PLO has been out of the race seat working hard with the familiy business, but returned this past weekend at the Coupe du Quebec round at SRA Karting. Spending a practice day getting back up to speed, Ouellette swept the day in the Rotax Senior category as he used the time to prepare for next weekends ECKC rounds at Goodwood Kartways.
“It was not really a issue for me to come back after 7 months,” explained Ouellette. “For sure it is never easy but with a full practice day on Saturday, after all it was ok for me.”
The main reason Ouellette has been away from the track so much is his new business venture with his Father. The duo operate manufacture wood siding for major housing projects and also provide stores like Rona with building materials. Recently opening a new shop in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, the two have been very busy making it tough for Pier-Luc to race.
“This year we have a new shop in Mont-Tremblant that I am helping them also,” continues Ouellette. “We are also building a new 25 000 square ft facility in St-Roch de l’Achigan. So with a these new things in 2013 my racing programe is shorter. But I will never stop racing, racing is a way of life for me and I cannot stop.”
“My dad always told me when I was younger, work hard play hard.” And that is what PLO has done and in doing so has earned some time to get back in the racers seat. At least for ECKC at Goodwood and the 2013 Canadian Championships for now.
