As the snow melts away and winter karting programs come to an end, the 2015 Can-Am Karting Challenge is set to open in only a few weeks time. With a series that has seen increased numbers with each and every passing season, the 2015 edition of the program looks to be a solid and exciting one as drivers look to battle for a host of awards and prizes including tickets to the 2015 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Portimao, Portugal.
Kicking off the third season, the Can-Am Karting Challenge will begin at Tri-Cities Kart Club in Richland, Washington over the April 17-19 weekend. Registration for this event is now open and can be completed HERE. The second round will see teams and competitors travel to Medford, Oregon over the May 29-31 weekend before heading north of the border to Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack, British Columbia. The fourth and final round of the series will take place at the tricky Pat’s Acres Racing Complex in Canby, Oregon.
“We are very excited about the upcoming season,” explained Mike Rolison, Can-Am Karting Challenge Series Administrator. “We have implemented a lower registration price for the Rotax Micro and Mini MAX classes to help grow these divisions and the future of our sport. The Superkarts! USA shifterkart classes continue to show growth and the LO206 program is showing great momentum as we head into our third season.”
Due to the lack of availability for the Rotax evo engine upgrades, the Can-Am Karting Challenge has had to make the following adjustments to the first event. While both engine packages will be allowed, they will be scored separately for the first event to make a clear and level playing field for all competitors.
“If drivers with evo engines or evo upgrade kits finish first through fourth and the first non evo kit finishes fifth, the fifth place finisher will also be awarded first place points,” expressed Rolison. “We do not want competitors to get frustrated if they cannot get the proper equipment, so we have implemented these rules for the first event and the first event only. Moving to the second event, we will continue the championship chase as normal with all competitors and merge the points going forward with the normal points structure.”
The 2015 Can-Am Karting Challenge program will award Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals tickets to the champions of Rotax Junior, Rotax Senior and Rotax DD2. More than an $8000.00 value, these lucky and deserving champions will represent their country at the ‘Olympics of Karting’ in Portugal later this year. Continuing with championship awards, the class winners in Rotax Micro MAX, Mini MAX and Masters MAX will be awarded free entry to the US Open series finale in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rolison continued, “We are trying to give back to the karting community and over $30,000 in awards and prizes are showing the efforts in our program. We will also be offering a free BBQ hosted by the Can-Am Karting Challenge for all racers and families on the Friday after practice concludes. We are also going above and beyond major North American karting series and offering free pit spots to all teams and competitors.”
The Rotax Can-Am Pro Kart Challenge series structure and supplemental regulations are posted HERE.
