Beautiful weather welcomed everyone to Ocala Gran Prix for Saturday’s competition of the 2014 Florida Winter Tour. It was round three of the sixth race championship setting the official halfway point and helping display some of the championship favourites.
The large field of Mini-Max drivers on hand have sure kept everyone at OGP on their toes as there has been intense racing throughout the entire grid. After an excitement-filled Prefinal, there were many drivers putting their names in contention for victory.
Harry Coulton (MRP/Birel) got things underway when converted his pole-position into the early lead with Sergio Terife slotting into second and a full melee of action behind as corner two claimed many victims on the opening lap.
By the halfway mark, Matthew Latifi (Ferrolati Corse/TonyKart) had worked his way into second and onto the bumper of Coulton who was still out front. Pushing away from his competitors, Latifi slid to the inside of corner one with two laps to go and took the lead.
Keeping his head down, Latifi hit all his marks and Coulton was unable to make a move. Latifi scored his first victory in Mini-Max with Coulton and Terifi joining him on the podium.
Michael d’Orlando (KoeneUSA/TonyKart) muscled his way to finish fifth, with brother Nicholas down in 19th. Matthew Barry (Praga) was 22nd while Lachlan Defrancesco (DFR/Benik Kart) had a terrible day after starting from the pole-position, ultimately ending in 26th.
