FWT: Cristiano Morgado and Derek Wang Sweep Qualifying in the Masters Categories

The 2013 Florida Winter Tour is underway in Homestead, Florida, USA. This weekend see’s the Rotax Max Challenge divisions hitting the track at Homestead-Miami Speedway, all seeking valuable championship points and individual race glory. After a week’s worth of practice, Friday saw drivers have two separate qualifying sessions, setting the grids for both Saturday and Sunday’s pre finals and Last Chance races.

Reigning Rotax DD2 Masters Grand Finals Champion Cristiano Morgado (CRG) continued his dominance of the DD2 Masters division as he took the Pole-Position for both pre finals in Homestead. Moragado would take the top-spot for Sunday ahead of Venezuelan Luis Schiavo (Praga) who had a very impressive session in his IPK North America prepared kart. Canada’s Scott Campbell (CRG) was third quickest in the session as the 2010 Grand Finals Champion posted a lap time of 47.018 seconds while Alessandro Manetti (Praga) qualified in the fourth position in his Rotax DD2 Masters debut ahead of Canadian Stuart Clark (Maranello).

In the afternoon session Morgado was ahead of the former World Champion Manetti as the Italian continued to show speed in his DD2 debut. Schiavo backed his second in the earlier session with a third for Saturday with Campbell qualified in the fourth position and his PSL Karting teammate Rene Martinelli (CRG) fifth. Martinelli is making his season debut this weekend.

In Rotax Masters Derek Wang (FA Kart) posted the quickest times in both Qualifying session, with Raul Costa (CRG) right behind him in both as well. For Sunday’s action Leonardo Nienkotter (Kosmic) took third position in qualifying followed by Dario Gallegher (Intrepid) and Scott Falcone (Arrow). For Saturday Jason Bell (Kosmic) climbed up the time sheets to take third position ahead of Nienkotter, and Falcone.
