Saturday DD2, Masters and Micro-Max Report

The Challenge is still struggling to gain an amble number of Rotax DD2 drivers as only six were on hand and none of them were in the DD2 Masters category.
Michael Ilavia (J3/CompKart) snagged the pole-position but Sabre Cook (CRG USA/CRG) was able to take advantage early in the Final and cruise to victory while Ilavia settled for second and Christian Bird (CRG USA/CRG) completed the podium. Matt Jaskol (PSL West/CRG) struggled with a flat tire in the Final holding him back from contending for a podium spot.

Big Brawl in Rotax Senior as Lupien Erupts As Saturday Winner

Qualifying was tight in Rotax Senior as Brendon Baker (Nash Motorsports/TonyKart) nipped Louie Pagano (2Wild/TonyKart) by 0.035 seconds for the pole-position with Mason Marotta (RPM/TonyKart) only 0.072 further back. Of the top-20, only two karts didn’t come from the OTK factory as Jake Craig (RaceLab/Formula K) was sixth and Chance Stephens (Zanardi) was eighteenth.
An exciting Prefinal set the tone for an action packed Final. When the dust settled in the opening laps Baker and Marotta had built a small gap over Pagano, Luke Sellikan (RPG/Kosmic) and Craig.

Mini-Max was stellar with no less than six karts battling for the lead as the laps wound down in their Final. The lead exchanged often between Mexican Sebastian Alvarez (PSL West/CRG), Canadian Griffin Dowler (RPM/Kosmic) and American Peyton Durrant (KoeneUSA/TonyKart). These three along with Marco Kacic (PSL West/CRG), Austin Torgerson (TonyKart) and Jacob Hudson (FA Kart) put on a heck of a battle until two laps to go.

Sting Ray Robb Controls Junior Max on Saturday

There have been two Rotax Junior drivers since practice began Friday that have set themselves apart from the rest in Tucson. American’s Sting Ray Robb (BBR/Kosmic) and Nick Brueckner (Orsolon/TonyKart) have been blistering fast and that pace continued on Saturday as racing got underway.
Brueckner got the edge in qualifying and the PreFinal but Robb wasn’t letting him go that easily in the Final as the two sophomore Juniors went head to head.

Rotax Challenge of the Americas Kicks Off This Weekend in Tucson!
We have travelled to sunny Tucson, Arizona for the opening round of the Rotax Challenge of the Americas, the first of three on the west coast. The Rotax Max program features all six Rotax tiers from Micro-Max all the way up to Max Masters and Rotax DD2. Following Tucson, the series stops in Phoenix, Arizona in February and Sonoma, California in March.
