2015 ECKC Preview: Rotax Max DD2 Masters

While the numbers may not be high, the Rotax DD2 Masters field is still very strong. With the reigning ECKC Champion Paul Carvalho is not returning to defend his title there are a pair of drivers looking to return to the Rotax Grand Finals and a few more hoping to qualify for the first time as ECKC Champion.

2015 ECKC Preview: Rotax Max DD2

It is very sad to see the numbers continue to fall in Rotax DD2, as the field that only three season ago was near 30, now struggles to reach double-digits. That being said, the battle for the championship came down to the wire last year and with both contenders back for another season the rivalry continue.

2015 ECKC Preview: Rotax Senior

This years class of Seniors is full of potential and while the entry list is shorter than anticipated, the quality of drivers is very high. There will be a new champion this season as unfortunately the ECKC and Canadian champion from the last two seasons, Zachary Claman DeMelo, has moved on to car racing. A mix of youth and experienced drivers should make for great racing and hopefully we will see some one-off appearances to keep things exciting throughout the year.

2015 ECKC Previews: Rotax Max Junior

As with every year in the Rotax Junior category, many of last years front-runners have moved on and up to Senior, including 2014 class champion Gianfranco Mazzaferro and his closest rival Cedrik Lupien. This has opened up the doors to a new class champion and there were many that came on strong towards the end of 2014 and will take advantage early in 2015. While we are not too impressed to the see the entry numbers in the category on the decline, there are still a solid few who we expect to battle for the championship.

2015 ECKC Preview: Rotax Mini Max

While our neighbours to the south finally switched to the full-sized chassis for Mini-Max this season, back home we have been using this spec since the class had been introduced to Canada in 2007. It has allowed the younger drivers to make an easier transition into the Junior category as we have seen the likes of Lazare, DeMelo and Mazzaferro move up and not be at a disadvantage once in the higher category. This season another group of karters will be in the category looking to hone their skills before moving up to Junior.

2015 ECKC Preview: Rotax Micro Max

Once again there is a promising young crop of drivers competing in the Rotax Micro-Max division while three of last years top runners have moved up, we will see a group of fresh faces racing for the top step of the podium. The youngest category competing at the ECKC has developed some great talents over the years.

2015 ECKC Preview: Briggs & Stratton LO206 Masters

Briggs & Stratton Masters has not only been the place to play for the veterans in our sport no longer fit to compete against the younger generation, but it has also been reintroducing some of Eastern Canada’s best four-cycle karters from the late 90’s and early 2000’s back into the sport with an appealing engine package which has enticed many to return to competition. Like in Briggs & Stratton Junior last years champion in the Masters ranks, Keith Barrick, will not compete in the championship opening it up for the taking and there are many drivers who will be battling all season long for the title.

2015 ECKC Preview: Briggs & Stratton LO206 Senior

The fastest growing class in the past three years, Briggs & Stratton LO206 Senior is a fan favourite. Side-by-side racing with tire rubbing and constant battles have helped rebuild the four-cycle community and with the Canadian Championships back in Ontario this year, the numbers continue to rise. There will be a few front runners from last year who will sit on the sidelines this season, including Michael Glaze and Derek Michaud, but there are no shortage of replacements to help fill the void. Bring on the action!

2015 ECKC Preview: Briggs & Stratton LO206 Junior

It was a slow start but for the past few seasons the Briggs & Stratton Junior category has been on the rise, introducing many young drivers into the sport as well as becoming one of the most competitive classes on the grid. With 25 drivers entered at the Champion Ron Fellows Karting Challenge event at Goodwood Kartways this past weekend, it looks like another record high turnout could be in the cards for the ECKC season opener. There will most likely be a new champion in the class as it appears reigning champion Roman DeAngelis has decided to focus on his Rotax Junior campaign opening up the opportunity for someone new to take control of the Briggs & Stratton Junior category.
