ECKC: Zachary Claman DeMelo Sweeps Rotax Senior on Saturday

Race #3 for the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship hit the track of a packed house at Goodwood Kartways on Saturday. A race day full of action wreaked havoc on many competitors, opening the top of the podium for some new drivers, while others continued to dominate.

In similar fashion to his Rotax Junior compatriot, Zachary Claman DeMelo (Goodwood/ZCD/Intrepid) dominated on Saturday in Rotax Senior in fine fashion, qualifying on the pole-position, winning the prefinal then cruising to an easy victory in the Final.

With DeMelo in his own element, all eyes were on the race for second. Kevin Monteith (REM/Birel) assumed the position at the start, ahead of Marco Signoretti (Energy Kart Canada/Energy) and Anthony Tolfa (TonyKart). Sticking on the bumper of Monteith, Signoretti slid into second place a few laps in and went on the defensive as Tolfa was pressured by Maxime Couturier.

The four held their positions through the mid-portion of the race until Coltin McCaughan (SH Racing/CKN/FA Kart), who started 28th, joined the action. First he picked off Couturier, then Tolfa, and had his eyes on Monteith and the podium. But he would run out of laps, as DeMelo was joined by Signoretti and Monteith on the podium with McCaughan fourth and Couturier grabbing the fifth spot at the line.
