The Eastern Canadian Karting Championship have released details about their 2016 season and also opened up their online registration process.
New for 2016, there will be two different event formats used as the Ontario rounds will stick to the double-header, where two complete race days will occur. For the Quebec rounds, the series will switch up to qualifying, multiple heat races and two finals, a similar format that is used at the Florida Winter Tour. The points available at all four rounds will still be the same, meaning no race has more influence than any other.
Patrick Moreau, coordinator of the ECKC states, “there are many formats for kart racing and each driver has their own preference. By changing the format this year for half of the championship, we are happy to satisfy many drivers who have requested the heat race format and also satisfy those who prefer the popular double header. Each format requires a different strategy and equipment management. Let’s see who will be good in both formats!”
Another big change this year will see the Rotax Max classes only have six tires to be used on a race weekend as apposed to eight. This will bring some strategy into play and potentially see the grids shaken up on Sundays.
Once again, the champions in the Rotax Junior, Senior, DD2 and DD2 Masters categories will earn invitations to join Team Canada at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, held this year in Sarno, Italy on October 15-22.
Finally, the series will welcome Briggs & Stratton Junior Lite to the Ontario rounds and the Vortex ROK Shifter category for the Quebec rounds.
The Series Regulation is available on www.eckc.ca on the DOCUMENTS page as well as the Supplementary regulation for the first round.
Registration for the first round is now open and will close on Sunday, May 15 at midnight. Late registration will be possible at the track but drivers are urged to register online.
