The sun is out and the snow has melted, and it’s that time of year again! Although it feels like its been ages since I’ve seen a kart. But nonetheless, another highly anticipated racing season in ahead of us with this one being slightly more exciting then the previous ones (Just kidding). For those of you that are unaware of who I am, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Coltin McCaughan from Calgary, Alberta and for the 2014 racing season I’m really excited to be the CanadianKartingNews.com Brand Ambassador presented by Cold Stone Creamery. Throughout the year I’ll be delivering blogs that will include the inside scoop from the events that I attend. At each event, I plan to deliver a daily post giving an in-depth view of my experiences each race day. My goal this year is to provide coaching and feedback to new and young drivers looking to lower their lap time on the track and expand their knowledge base for the future. In my first years of karting I received advice from people that have become some of my best friends within this sport. Now I feel it’s my turn to pass on what I have learned to this amazing community.
This will be my biggest year yet, not only in terms of sponsorships, but the fact that I’m moving up to the highly competitive Rotax Max Senior category. It’s a good feeling knowing that I’ve finally reached the top of the food chain and that I get to race against a long list of drivers who I would call pros. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Although it might be a big step in racing, I’m not taking it slowly by any means with my first race being Round one of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. I plan to be in attendance for all of the Eastern and Western Canadian Championships, Rotax Can-Am Challenge and the Canadian National Karting Championships.
Shortly after I found out that I was named the CKN Brand Ambassador, we began to explore our opportunities to partner with an Eastern race team. Because of my previous success on OTK products, we turned our attention towards SH Racing out of St. Hilaire, QC. SH Racing has had a very successful past with OTK products, so we felt confident that they were the race team to help us succeed in 2014. With regards to race events in Western Canada, we will continue our partnership with Apollo Motorsports out of Edmonton, AB. The Apollo Team has supported me throughout my junior racing career and helped me achieve some of my most memorable accomplishments. They have always treated us like family and no matter what life throws at you family comes first.
I look forward to a great season with the support of CKN, Cold Stone Creamery, Bell Racing Helmets, Polen Designs, SH Racing and Apollo Motorsport. I hope to deliver great results for my sponsors and myself.
