CKN ECKC Power Rankings: Rotax DD2

Round two is upon us as drivers and teams file into Goodwood Kartways for this weekends Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. Round one at Mosport was very successful boasting the largest entry count ever for an ECKC event, but number appears to be broken this weekend as many new faces are expected at Goodwood. Add in the chance to test for the 2013 ASN Canada FIA National Karting Championships that will also be held at Goodwood and it’s going to be a busy weekend.

Breaking down the results from the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship races thus far, CKN has created a power rankings section. Based on results from qualifying all the way to the Final, drivers were ranked on consistency and results to create our power rankings.

Here is CKN’s Power Rankings of Rotax DD2 drivers and who to watch this weekend.

Rank +/- Driver Remarks
1 Ben Cooper The defending class Champion continued his impressive form at Mosport, scoring the double victory and nearly topping every session (he only missed the pole-position on Saturday). He may have his work cut out for him at Goodwood as it was the only place Cooper didn’t win last season and it is the home of his closest rival.
2 Marco Di Leo Marco appeared to have enough to give Cooper a run for his money at Mosport but he ended up coming up short. Heading home to Goodwood plays in his favour but he still has his work cut out for him to take on the defending Grand Finals Champion.
3 Fred Woodley Woodley scored when it counted at Mosport standing on the podium on Saturday and rebounding on Sunday to finish fifth after a DNF in the Pre Final. He is inching closer to his breakout weekend and with a little luck it could happen at Goodwood.
4 Tyler McEwan After making the wrong tire call for the Saturday Final, McEwan made the right call on Sunday and scored a hard-earned podium finish. The privateer driver loves the rain and will be doing his rain dance this weekend, thats for sure.
5 Brendon Bain “Bainer” was forced to the sidelines on Saturday with an engine failure to his Rotax power plant while running in third. Like his Maranello teammate Woodley, Bain is on the edge of that breakout race as he keeps coming closer and closer to victory.

Drivers to watch:

Two-Time Rotax Grand Finals DD2 World Champion Pier-Luc Ouellette returns to action this weekend and will pull double-duty in Rotax Senior and DD2. He won both DD2 races at Goodwood last year and knows how to steer his CRG machine around the tight track. Enrico Menotti had an usual “off-weekend” at Mosport and he will be looking to rebound at Goodwood and you can’t count out Cory Cacciavillani. Dante Lerra was fast last weekend at the TRAK club race and Alessandro Bizzotto could work his way into the top-five this weekend as well.
