For any karting family, even a vacation away from the track must involve some sort of kart racing, whether it be a family battle on the rental karts or renting a uHaul trailer to tow your kart and compete in a local race.
That is how the Collison family saw it, when a last minute idea to bring their kart turned into a race win at the Go Pro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina. Ciarra Collison, who regularly races at the Waterloo Regional Kart Club and made her Eastern Canadian Karting Championship debut at Goodwood a few weeks ago, claimed the top honour in the Briggs & Stratton LO206 Junior category, after winning Final 1 and coming in second in Final 2.
Competing in the GoPro Motorplex Karting Challenge Presented by Hoosier Racing Tire, a local karting championship in the heart of NASCAR country, Collison fell in love with the track immediately and really enjoyed the competition before getting some much needed relaxation on Lake Norman with her family. As the GoPro Motorplex is a favourite for NASCAR drivers and teams, Collison was also able to meet with legendary NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs at the event.
After a rocky start to the season that included a vicious accident at Goodwood, the win has put her back on track.
