The Ferrari Driver Academy is part of a unique program that is running a program very similar to what has made the Florida Winter Tour karting series successful. Travelling from Italy across the atlantic to the sunny US state of Florida, the Ferrari Driver Academy is hosting a four-round race series for formula car racers all looking to get a head start of their 2014 racing season.
The series will have races at Sebring International Raceway, Palm Beach International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway in the months of January and February. Racing aboard identical ex-Formula Abarth cars.
Two Canadian kart racers who are making the transition to cars are entered to compete in the series as Lance Stroll, who is signed to the Ferrari Driver Academy, and Nicholas Latifi will return to North America. Stroll just finished his debut season in the KF division, the premier karting division in Europe while Latifi just completed his debut open-wheel season, racing in the FIA Formula 3 championship.
Both drivers will have their work cut out for them as some pretty impressive international names have signed up. Marussia Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi will compete as will IndyCar’s Simona De Silvestro and European F3 Open champion Ed Jones. Stroll will have two familiar foes competing as fellow Ferrari Driver Academy drivers Antonio Fuoco and Raffaele Marciello are entered.
