PR: The Waterloo Regional Kart Club Oktoberfest Grandprix is a Huge Success

Holding a racing event in October in Southern Ontario can be a risky proposition, you never know what Mother Nature has planned. On the Thanksgiving weekend the Waterloo Regional Kart Club (WRKC) held the 32nd annual Oktoberfest Grandprix and the weather couldn’t have been better. Every registered driver went home with a prize, and the race winners also received a beautiful glass trophy and commemorative checkered flag.

In the Cadet class feature race results you had to look all the way back to the 4th and 5th spot to find a pass for position. Zachary Allison led the way when he paced the field in qualifying, won the pre-final and managed to make it 3 for 3 with the race win. Cole Quinton didn’t make it easy for him, with a strong showing in the final race to finish in 2nd place. The 3rd place finisher was Grace Baillargeon, with Jonny Robillard finishing 4th and Christian Alger finishing in fifth.

The Novice class fastest qualifier was Liam Rhodes, In the final Rhodes held off the rest of the competitors to claim the victory, Kyle DaSilva was the 2nd place finisher but he had his hands full to stay ahead of Madison Colling the 3rd place finisher, Josh Bisschop was all in the mix managing a 4th place finish, Keidon Fletcher rounded on the top five.

In Jr.Lite Ciarra Collison started both the pre-final and final on the pole position. Hudson Turpin was never far behind but wasn’t able to mount a challenge for the lead. At the checkered flag it was Collison in 1st, Turpin in 2nd, Aaron Turnbull in 3rd, Miranda Gill in 4th and the 5th place finisher was Austin Wadham. In Jr. Heavy it was Tyler Paquette with the fast qualifying lap, but 2nd fastest qualifier Kaitlin Neely took the lead in the pre-final on lap 1 and held on to finish 1st. In the final Neely led the first 8 laps, but was under constant pressure from Jordan Howse. Howse managed to get past Neely and lead the rest of the laps except for the one that mattered. On the last lap Austin Bisschop managed to get by Howse for the lead with Paquette also getting by Howse for a 2nd Place finish. Howse hung on for 3rd, Steve Murdock was 4th and Neely rounded out the top 5.

In Sr. Lite Tristan Gill was the winner, Ryan Brutzki was 2nd, Adam Racine was 3rd, David Miller was 4th and the final podium spot went to Kyle Edgar. Gill was also running in the Sr. Heavy class and looked like he was on his way to taking his 2nd feature win of the day. David Miller started the feature in 2nd and pressed hard for 13 laps, his determination finally paid off on the the second last lap when he got by Gill to claim the win. Mack DeMan was 2nd, Steven Murdoch was 3rd, Scott Robertson was 4th and Justin Russell was 5th. In Masters it was John Dryden converting his pole position in the feature into an Oktoberfest Grandprix win, James Woods was 2nd, Sandy Murdoch was 3rd, with Brian Wilkinson and Rich Mizener in 4th and 5th.

The Oktoberfest Grandprix brings to a conclusion another very successful year of racing for the WRKC. The club would like to thank all those who raced with us this year, and also thank our race officials. With out their dedication and help we couldn’t run the largest 4 cycle kart racing series in Canada.
