Event News: 15th Annual Canadian National Karting Championships
The 15th Annual ASN Canadian Karting Championships presented by Canadian Tire are now just days away and the paddock is already producing a flurry of activity each day at Goodwood Kartways. Many drivers on hand are preparing for a Toronto Racing Association of Karters club event this weekend, and still more are expected to arrive in order to use that same club event as a tune-up for Nationals just days later. Entries are being processed as they come in, with personalized credentials being printed and paddock reservations being noted and reserved as well. Everything about the event is moving full steam ahead, including news today of the many partners, sponsors and awards available to participants.
As has become tradition, each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt, this year provided by host Goodwood Kartways and designed by George Michaels Race Design. Also this year, each driver will receive a participant medal provided by Maranello Kart North America. The pair lead off a virtual who’s-who in Canadian karting, with the industry showing tremendous support for the 2013 event. Class sponsors in Rotax Max classes include: PSL Karting, Pserra Racing, Karts & Parts, Praga North America, SRA Karting and Packedge Portable Storage, whose units will be evident inside the paddock as they house a number of kart teams at Goodwood. The Canadian National Karting Championships also contest three four-stroke racing classes, with sponsors in Briggs & Stratton including Margay Kart, K&K Karts, and K1 Racegear.
A number of other awards are also slated to be presented, first and foremost on the minds of many in the paddock being trips to the 2013 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals to be contested in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, this coming November. Class Champions in Rotax Junior, Rotax Senior, Rotax DD2 and Rotax DD2 Masters will be offered tickets to the ‘Rotax Worlds’ if they have not previously qualified, and should they accept, will be headed to NOLA Motorsports Park November 13-16 as members of Team Canada. This year’s Grand Finals will also see Micro-Max and Mini-Max categories competing in a NOLA Invitational special event, and the top three finishers from both classes will be invited to participate, bringing the total to 10 Grand Finals spots to be awarded at Canadian Nationals. The team will then be decked out in Official Team Canada gear, compliments of Sofina Foods and the Latifi Family.
The 2013 edition at Goodwood will begin with practice days on Wednesday and Thursday, and after a further warm-up session on Friday, true track action will begin with Canadian Tire SuperPole Qualifying sessions. At day’s end, the top three drivers from each class will be recognized with a podium ceremony and earn a portion of $5,400 Canadian Tire dollars up for grabs! Friday will also see race action begin with Heat 1 in each class, and Heats 2 and 3 will be on Saturday before Prefinals and Finals on Championship Sunday. Drivers who claim a Canadian Championship will also do a victory lap, and then keep a commemorative Victory Lap flag! Tuners will not be forgotten either, as each nominated Champion tuner receives an Award Trophy and tool kit.
Additional awards will reward a range of drivers, a number of those from Briggs & Stratton categories. K1 Race Gear will produce a custom suit and race gloves for the Briggs & Stratton Masters’ Champion; Briggs & Stratton will award a PowerSmart generator to the top three finishers in each Briggs Final; and Inferno Racing Clutches through East Coast Karting will award a racing clutch to the position four, five and six finishers in each Briggs & Stratton class! The Briggs Junior and Senior Champions will also be awarded a Welder Watch via Makos Promotional Products, creating an incredible package for four-stroke racers: watches, clutches, generators, suits and a pocket full of Canadian Tire cash!
Three Rotax Junior drivers from the event will also be on their way to test a Formula Ford race car, as Brian Graham Racing will reward the Rotax Junior podium finishers with a shared test day this Fall at Shannonville Motorsport Park. All activities from Goodwood will be extensively covered by Official media partner CanadianKartingNews.com, with daily photo galleries, a live blog managed by Parker Thompson, live timing, daily recaps, full results on a National Championship Competition Page and video interviews from trackside each day.
Pre-registration at asncanada.com closes today, August 16th. Drivers are urged to complete and submit their entry as soon as possible if they plan to compete, as paddock reservation and motorhome parking requests are assigned on a first come, first served basis.
