News & Notes: Northern Ontario Karting Championship Kicks off this Weekend!

The 2013 Canadian Karting season is in full swing, and for the Ontario region it is surely going to be a busy one. Kart clubs are full throttle with Mother Nature finally playing nice, while the first major series event hits the track this weekend in Innisfil as the Northern Ontario Karting Championship revs up for the first of six races in 2013 on Sunday May 5.

Here’s a few news and notes about this weekend’s NOKC event.

First Major Gathering of 2013
With the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship, Quebec Cup and Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship’s set to start towards the end of the month, the NOKC will be the first major event to hit the track in 2013 in Canada. As mentioned, it will be a very busy season in Ontario that will see many drivers and teams go full out until the end of September.

Big Prizes on Tap
To entice drivers to compete this year, the NOKC is offering some pretty impressive prize packages. The 125cc Shifter class champion will be awarded a funded ride with GP Canada to the 2013 SKUSA SuperNationals in Las Vegas, USA or a cool $5000.00 cash. If the series tops 120 entries, $5000.00 will be divvied out for the top-ten finishers as well.

Cash Payouts
For every class with a minimum ten entries, the NOKC will pay back to the drivers with $1000 divided between the top-three finishers of the class.

Shifter Karts
The following of shifter kart pilots in Canada is trying to make a comeback and the NOKC has included the class on it’s roster for 2013. There is plenty of talk in the paddock about Shifter’s recently and if it has any hope and returning full time in Canada it has to start somewhere. The sweet smell of a 6-speed ICC should get a few members of the paddock going.

Classes for Everyone
The NOKC has a class for everyone as 11 classes are on the schedule for this Sunday’s event. The entire lineup of Rotax classes are available from Micro-Max to DD2, while Novice, Junior Lite, Junior Heavy, Senior and Masters complete the 4-cycle lineup, with 125 Shifter rounding out the class structure.

CKN will be trackside on Sunday at the NOKC opener, with news, results and a photo gallery of the day’s action.
