PR: ECKC #1 – Team SRA Karting Race Report

The 2012 season of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championships began this weekend at Goodwood Kartways in Stouffville, Ontario.  The event presented races 1 & 2 of this 6 race championships. Team SRA Karting was composed of Zacharie Robichon, Ben Cooper and Christophe Boisclair in the Rotax DD2 class and by Olivier Bédard and Jeffrey Kingsley in Rotax Max Junior.

SRA’s drivers did very well throughout the weekend, finishing in the top 10 in every session. Saturday was the best of the weekend with three podiums. In the Junior Max final, Olivier Bédard took the second place just behind the winner Parker Thompson, from Alberta while Jeffrey Kingsley just missed the podium when he finished 4^th. In the final race of the day, Ben Cooper led most of the race before winner Pier-Luc Ouellette passed him with two laps to go. Christophe Boisclair joined them on the podium in 3^rd place. Zacharie Robichon couldn’t finish the race due to a mechanical problem.

Sunday started very well for Bédard which took the polpe in qualifying and he crossed the finish line first but he lost the win it at the tech. Kingsley finish the pre-final 6^th. In the final race, Kingsley had the best results with a 5^th place and Bédard finished 10^th after he started last.

In Rotax DD2, Cooper, Boisclair and Robichon continued to show speed. After the 2^nd fast time in qualifying, Cooper finished the pre-final 2^nd and almost passed Pier-Luc Ouellette on the last lap. Cooper closed the weekend with two 2^nd position. Christophe Boisclair was on his way for a second 3^rd place in two days but Daniel Burkett surprised him when he overtook Boisclair with two corners to go. Zacharie Robichon finished 8^th.

La nouvelle saison du Eastern Canadian Karting Championships a démarré cette fin de semaine au circuit de Goodwood Kartways à Stouffville, Ontario. On y présentait les courses 1 et 2 de ce championnat de six courses. L’équipe de SRA Karting était composée de Zacharie Robichon, Ben Cooper et Christophe Boisclair dans la catégorie Rotax DD2 et d’Olivier Bédard et Jeffrey Kingsley en Rotax Max Junior.

Les pilotes SRA ont bien fait tout au long de la fin de semaine, terminant dans les 10 premiers lors de chacune des sessions. La journée de samedi a été la plus fructueuse avec trois podiums. Lors de la finale de la catégorie Max Junior, Olivier Bédard a terminé deuxième tout juste derrière l’albertain Parker Thompson alors que Jeffrey Kingsley a terminé tout juste en dehors du podium avec une 4è place. Lors de la dernière finale de la journée, Ben Cooper a mené la course un bon moment avant d’être rejoint et dépassé par Pier-Luc Ouellette. Christophe Boisclair a complété le podium alors que Zacharie Robichon a dû abandonner en raison d’un problème avec son conduit d’essence.

Dimanche, le tout a bien débuté pour Bédard avec la position de tête lors de la qualification en Max Junior et une 6è place pour Kingsley. Lors de la pré-finale Bédard a franchi le fil d’arrivée en 1^èreposition mais il fut déclassé lors de l’inspection technique. Kingsley a quant à lui pris la 5è place. Lors de la finale, c’est Kingsley qui a obtenu le meilleur résultat avec une 5è place alors qu’Olivier Bédard a fait une superbe remontée en terminant 10è après être parti de la dernière position.

En Rotax DD2, Cooper, Boisclair et Robichon ont continué à rouler aux avant-postes. Après avoir obtenu le deuxième temps lors de la qualification, Cooper a terminé deuxième lors de la pré-finale et a presque réussi à passer l’éventuel vainqueur Pier-Luc Ouellette lors du dernier tour de la finale. Ce fut autre deuxième place pour Cooper. Christophe Boisclair était bien parti pour monter à nouveau sur le podium mais à deux virages de la fin, Daniel Burkett a surpris Boisclair pour monter sur la troisième marche du podium reléguant Boisclair en 4è position. Zacharie Robichon a pris la 8è position.
