As we approach the final race weekends in Ontario, the Champion Ron Fellows Karting Championship will crown their title winners on Saturday at Goodwood Kartways.
The unique event will see two races take place throughout the day including the much-anticipated debut race of the Rok Cup Canada shootout, where three drivers will earn invitations to the Rok Cup International Final in Italy. In the morning, there will be a TRAK club race mixed in with the opening sessions of the Rok event. The afternoon features the second half of the Rok races along with the CRFKC final races. We’ve had a look at the championship standings of all classes and have put together a preview of what we can expect in five great championship battles. It will be interesting to see which drivers have switched to Vortex Rok engines, given that they will count for points for those who have raced in Rotax this summer.
Briggs Junior Tied at the Top!
Gianluca Savaglio kicked off the CRFKC season with a win at Goodwood way back in May, but consistent top finishes have Jordan Prior tied with him for the championship lead. A further five points back lay round three winner Liam Ortlieb. ECKC Champion Gabriel Savoie is fourth and within striking distance at 45 points back. Kai Dalziel and Khloe Drummond are also within 100 points of the championship lead and with a big group and 200 points up for the race winner, this championship could go in many different directions this Saturday.
Lots on the line in Rotax Junior
We’ve heard that many of the drivers have traded in one of their Rotax engines for a Rok engine in hopes of taking the win this weekend and going to Italy. All three The top three in the championship hunt are separated by only 25 points and we’ve confirmed that they will all race on a Rok. Currently, Mackenzie Clark leads the way after taking a big win at Mosport in round three. Kai Dalziel is fifteen points back and he has a win to his credit back at Goodwood while Xavier Harris scored a race win round two and could vault to the top with a win this weekend.
We will have to keep an eye on 2017 Canadian Champion Dale Curran, Robert Soroka, and Gianluca Savaglio, who have shown great pace this summer and are penned to make their Rok debut.
100 Points Separates Top-Six in Briggs Senior
Marco DiLeo and Joshua Conquer don’t have a win this year in CRFKC competition, but they currently sit 1-2 in the standings courtesy of consistently strong finishes in a class that has featured 55 different drivers enter a CRFKC race this year. Di Leo leads by 25 points while Conquer is actually tied for second with Pearce Herder. Behind them, the Energy Kart pair of Alex Da Silva and Marco Signoretti are tied for fourth, eighty points behind Di Leo. Logan Cusson is also within the 100 point marker in sixth.
Signoretti has the chance to prove that anything is possible after his DNF in round one, he has a win and a fourth place finish to get right back into the hunt.
There will be many to watch this weekend, but none more than Jon Treadwell, as the Canadian Champion is yet to score any points in CRFKC action this season.
Paniccia vs Boyle for Mini-Max Championship
After two rounds it appeared that Marcello Paniccia was going to run away with the title, but he faltered in round three and that opened the door for Austin Boyle to close in. The two are separated by 15 points, making it virtually a winner take all scenario for the Rotax Mini-Max title.
Ryland Duesburry is 60 points back and given the small class size, he would need a little luck to help overcome that gap, but he enters the weekend as the race three winner and anything is possible. Anthony Sardelitti is in a similar situation, sitting 95 points back of the leader Paniccia.
Everyone Chasing Connor Pritiko in Briggs Junior Lite
It’s been a terrific season of racing in Briggs Junior Lite as 32 drivers have made a start in the second year category. Connor Pritiko has been riding his win in round one to maintain a lead in the championship, which is 60 points going into Saturday. Chasing him will be a group that has all enjoyed the podium this season.
Anthony Boscia has done plenty of battling with Pritiko this summer and holds the second spot. Third is Lily Flintoff, ten points back of Boscia. A further twenty points back in fourth is Jake Cowden, who won at Mosport in July. After that, there is a bit of a jump back to Nicholas Christodoulou and Nick Gilkes, but the two are still within reach of the championship podium.
