PR: Ben Cooper Racing Triumphs in ECKC Season Finale

This past weekend the Ben Cooper Racing stable finished off a successful season in the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship at the Mosport Kartways facility in Bowmanville, Ontario. With championships on the line for some team members it was a weekend of triumph and heartbreak for drivers sitting in the hot seat of some championship battles.

Ryan MacDermid lead the charge for the team as he swept Saturday’s racing action, qualifying on pole then going on to win the prefinal and final. This allowed him to retake the championship lead going into Sunday’s race. Turning to Sunday MacDermid once again qualified on Pole and won the prefinal meaning all he had to do was finish second to his championship rival in the final to win the title. And that was exactly what MacDermid did, bringing home the Rotax Junior Title for BCR after a stellar championship performance. MacDermid wasn’t the only BCR driver who stepped on the podium in Rotax Junior as he was joined by Patrick Woods Toth after having a great drive to finish second in his best finish of the season then following it up with a sixth on Sunday. Tommy Simard and Emma Delattre both fought hard but unfortunately finished down the running order.

In Rotax Senior, Cedrik Lupien came into the weekend with the championship lead however a weekend filled with bad luck ultimately cost him the championship and having to settle for second. Samuel Lupien had on up and down weekend as well after finishing second on Saturday the younger Lupien ended the season with a third in the championship.

BCR’s Mini Max drivers showed great speed throughout the weekend where Justin Arseneau, Chloe Chambers and Dale Curran were in the thick of the podium battle. In Saturday’s final Arseneau finished third. Curran and Chambers were running in second and third for majority of the race until the final lap where Curran’s engine expired due to unfortunate circumstances which lead to Chambers having nowhere to go and both drivers making contact. Chambers recovered to finish a disappointing fifth while Curran was forced to end the race on the sidelines. In Sunday’s final Arseneau finished third for the second day and was followed by the day’s fast qualifier Chambers and Curran to complete the top five. In the final championship standings Arseneau ended the season in second with Curran third and Chambers fourth.

In DD2, Didier Carre and Dev Gore both finished off the season with a pair of top ten finishes each as Gore came home fifth in the final points tally with Carre finishing sixth in the Championship. Finishing eleventh and sixth in this weekend’s races reigning Briggs & Stratton Senior champion Simon Belanger finished fourth in the championship after his first full season with the team.

With lots of highs and lots of lows we have put on a solid performance throughout the season with most of our drivers scoring top 5 finishes in the championship and with the Junior Rotax title. Ryan has done fantastic this year and with the disappointment of the Florida Winter Tour we are delighted for him to take the win and his ticket to Sarno this year. Now on to the Nationals in September.”

Looking to the immediate future the team will set its focus to the Canadian National Championships before making the trek down to Las Vegas for the US Open Finale at the Rio in Las Vegas in November. BCR will have arrive and drive spots available for the event in November for those interested in participating.
