PR: BCR Drivers Push for More Podiums at ECKC Round 3

This past weekend saw Ben Cooper Racing compete in the third round of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship at the teams second home facility, Académie de Karting Jim Russell in Mont Tremblant, Quebec. Battling through the varying conditions this weekend, BCR drivers were once again in the thick of the action come Sunday’s finals.

The team’s Mini Max trio all delivered solid performances with Chloe Chambers continuing to show great form in her breakout season setting the fastest lap in qualifying. In a wet final 1 Justin Arseneau came through the field from seventh to finish second ahead of teammate Dale Curran. Chambers on the other hand, had a tough go finishing in fifth. The three drivers backed the first final results with a 2-3-4 sweep in final two after working there way up the order.

In Rotax Senior BCR had a quintet of drivers in the mix this weekend with Cedrik and Samuel Lupien once again leading the charge. In the two finals both Lupiens would finish on the podium with Sam taking second and Cedrik third in final 1, then Cedrik finishing second ahead of Sam in Final 2. Carson Kapica had another great outing, finishing in fifth in both finals followed by new team addition Nicholas Hornbostel coming home in sixth. The team also welcomed American driver Stirling Fairman who finished just outside the top ten in the two finals.

Dev Gore and Didier Carre had their best effort of the season in DD2 with Gore finishing third and 7th in the finals while Carre finished sixth in both mains. The duo both were putting fast laps in the second final even though their results didn’t reflect their performance. In the DD2 Masters Category Lord Normand scored a win and a second for the team after making his first ECKC start.

It was a weekend to forget for the teams Rotax Junior drivers as luck was not on their side. Points leader Ryan MacDermid finished fourth in final 1 after rain started to fall once drivers took to the track. He unfortunately retired in the second main due to an incident on lap one. Emma Delattre and Patrick Woods-Toth both had top ten results in the two finals. On a lighter note Tommy Simard, who made his karting return this past weekend finished in the sixth after a tough go in final 1.

Finally, in the Briggs & Stratton categories Simon Belanger continued his run of top-ten finishes, placing in seventh and fourth in the finals. Brandon Itzochitch showed some more improvement this past weekend as he was on the verge of cracking the top-ten in a very competitive Briggs & Stratton Junior field.

“The past weekend was what I could call a typical British racing weekend. Wet, dry, then wet, then finally back to the dry. The team had another solid weekend with some good consistent finishes which is needed for the final push for the championship in Mosport.”

With the first three rounds of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship over all eyes turn to the series finale at Mosport Kartways in Bowmanville, Ontario. BCR drivers Cedrik Lupien and Ryan MacDermid both are determined to secure the Rotax Senior and Junior championships at months end, while the rest of the team will be eager to work their way up the standings to end the championship on a high.
