Wet and Wild Adventure at Goodwood for CRFKC Opener!

The day started out with heavy fog and relatively cool temperatures but that didn’t stop over 180 drivers from travelling to Goodwood Kartways for the opening round of the Champion Ron Fellows Karting Challenge. Made up of primarily Briggs & Stratton racers, eleven classes filled up the daily schedule as the CRFKC kicked off their second season in operation on Saturday.

Rain was intermittent throughout the morning, challenging drivers on the tight and tricky Goodwood circuit and keeping everyone on wet tires until the track slowly dried up in the afternoon, even as the temperatures dropped and a gusty wind picked up that sent chills throughout the paddock.

Large grids in Briggs Junior Lite (29), Junior (29), Senior (37) and Masters (29) provided the spectators braving the cold with some great racing action, although the challenging conditions forced officials to stop and restart a few races after opening lap incidents collected many drivers. Regardless, it was great to see so many new faces taking in the regional competitions in Ontario as the LO206 program continues to grow.

The racing also gave us a great preview of what to expect when the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship rolls into Goodwood next weekend. With better weather in the forecast, it too should be a great weekend of racing with eight of the eleven classes competing in ECKC action and many of the same drivers expected to return.

When the checkered flags flew throughout the afternoon, familiar faces topped the podium in many categories while some new drivers worked their way onto the CRFKC podiums. Below are the top-5 for each category.
