Massive Turnout at CRFKC as Drivers Prepare for Canadian Championships

The Champion Ron Fellows Karting Championship continues to impress in its debut season. The third round of the regional championship drew a massive 218 drivers across twelve categories in a day filled with excitement and anxiety as drivers battled heat and humidity for important championship points while some out of town drivers jumped at the last chance to test before this weeks ASN Canadian National Karting Championships.

Once again the Briggs & Stratton numbers are breathing life back into the sport and they are providing a show while doing it. 124 drivers were split across the five categories on track, including continued growth in the Novice and Junior Lite classes with more and more drivers becoming interested in the regional program that pits the MIKA and TRAK clubs together.

Drivers from as far away as Alberta, Quebec and New Brunswick made their way to Mosport Kartways to use the weekend to get up to speed on the tricky track configuration that will be utilized for the Canadian Championships.

The day ran very smoothly with only one incident holding up the schedule when Rotax Junior driver Ryan Macdermid went for a wild ride at the start of the Final. After being transported to hospital, Macdermid was released with no injuries and intends to be back this week for the Nationals.

Added to the CRFKC schedule for the weekend, the Open Shifter class hit the track for the first time at Mosport. The sweet sound of six-speed shifter kart engines enlightens any true karting fan and while they competed alongside the Rotax DD2 drivers this weekend, the class will have their moment of glory this week as a Canadian National class for the first time in seven years.

With all eyes back on Mosport Kartways this week for Canada’s premier event of the summer, the ASN Canadian National Championships, we hope to see even more of this great summer competition. And for those CRFKC competitors looking towards the championship finale, it will happen at Goodwood Kartways in September.
