ECKC: New Faces Stand Atop the Podium in Briggs & Stratton LO206 Junior at ICAR

With a very small local turnout of drivers in the Briggs & Stratton Junior category the numbers fell off quite a bit at ICAR in comparison to last month at Goodwood, however that didn’t hold back the drivers from putting on a great show and when all was said and done, two new drivers claimed victories and joined the championship fight in the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship.

After a rocky start to the season at Goodwood, Xavier Dorsnie (BirelART) get things rolling on Saturday, posting the fastest qualifying time and then maintaining the top position in the PreFinal, but when the green flag flew to start the Final, he had his hands full with Braxton Terry (K&K Kart), Joshua Conquer (K&K Kart), William Chayer (K&K Kart), Austin Bisschop (BirelART) and Zachary Vanier (BirelART).

As the laps ticked away, drivers fell off the lead pack until Dorsnie, Terry and Chayer remained. Juggling the lead on the final lap, the battling between Dorsnie and Terry allowed Chayer to close right in, but it was little too late after Dorsnie made a move stick in corner nine on Terry and the drag race for the finish line was all behind Dorsnie who secured his first win of the season. Terry lost the sprint to the finish line to Chayer by a hundredth of a second, but still managed a position on the podium while Bisschop and Vanier completed the top-five.

Goodwood race winner Braxton Terry (K&K Kart) was the man when the action resumed on Sunday, Qualifying on the pole-position and winning the PreFinal. But after losing the jump at the start of the Final, Terry found himself in trouble and before the first lap was complete, his race was done.

Sunday’s Final featured a three horse race between Conquer, Dorsnie and Vanier. Gavin Sanders (Intrepid) was in on the action at the start, but he faded back and would eventually duke it out with Chayer for the fourth position.

After getting swallowed up by both Dorsnie and Vanier and surrendering the lead, Conquer lost even more momentum when he tried to recovered second place back, ending his chances at victory on the final lap.

Vanier then executed a perfect pass on Dorsnie a few corners later and with a successful block in corner nine, he was on the way to victory, becoming the fourth different race winner of 2015. With Sanders and Chayer hot on his heels, Conquer narrowly held on for third while Keidon Fletcher, Owen Clarke, Bisschop, Lucas Janson and Logan Cusson completed the top-ten.
