Austin Riley Becomes first driver with Autism to Complete Skip Barber Racing School [With Video]

Taking a break from his busy karting season, Autistic kart racer Austin Riley and his Racing With Autism team travelled south to Atlanta, Georgia, USA last week.

Invited by the Skip Barber Racing School, Riley was set to take on the Road Atlanta racing circuit in hopes of becoming the first person with autism to complete the 3-day racing school.

Following an introduction day organized one day before the school just to ensure Austin could get comfortable and wouldn’t be too far out of his element when the school began.

But the introduction day seemed a little unnecessary as Riley immediately became comfortable with the Skip Barber open wheel race car and the tricky Road Atlanta race track.

Through the three-day school, Riley fit in like he belonged and on Thursday afternoon he finished his final session, he completed his goal and became the first person with autism to graduate from the Skip Barber Racing School.

“Austin exceeded everyone’s expectations and became the first person with Autism to graduate a Skip Barber race school,” exclaimed Austin’s father Jason Riiley. “All of the staff at Skip Barber were so amazing with Austin, we can’t thank them enough for the help and patience.”

Below are a few of the Facebook posts from the Racing With Autism page as the week progressed in Georgia.

A video of the week down in Georgia was recorded. Check it out and enjoy!
