REM is coming off a long weekend of racing at the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. The race was held at Goodwood Kartways who hosted rounds 3&4 of the championship. REM hosted a very large team of drivers with the count at 16 for the weekend’s festivities. With hot temperatures and a large amount of drivers teams began to see the rubber come down at a very rapid pace making everyone work hard to keep up to the ever changing track but REM managed the conditions quite well.

On Saturday, Round one of the weekend began and REM drivers showed good pace in the morning practice and qualifying sessions. In Briggs Senior Kyle Edgar lead the team to a solid 8th place qualifying attempt only two tenths off the pole time. REM also found the Jefferies brothers of Scott and Rob starting up front with third and fourth starting positions. The team micro max competitor of Liam Rhodes also will come out of qualifying with a decent result starting seventh for the pre final. Finally, in the Rotax Senior category, Kevin Monteith puts up the fourth fastest time in the class.

After the pre finals finished, drivers began preparation for the finals. The team faired quite well in the finals, in Briggs senior, Kyle Edgar was able to maintain position during the race and ended up in the 7th position at the flag. REM’s second driver in the class, Ryan Brutski was able to stay clean during the event and come home just outside the top ten in 12th place. In Briggs Masters, the story was a little different, Rob Jefferies made a perfect pass taking two karts on the entry to turn 5 on the final lap but exiting turn seven there was contact from behind putting him out of the race. This moved Scott Jefferies up to the fifth position at the flag. in the Micro Max final, Liam Rhodes was able to make up some positions early and was making the pass for fourth place but again there was contact that put him out of the race. In the Rotax Senior, Kevin Monteith battled through to finish in third place on the podium. While Kieran Oxley finished up in the 19th spot after some contact early in the race and Taylor Gates who is fresh off of injury finished up in the 11th position. Matthew Vitelli who is in his first ever ECKC event got into trouble early and ended up with a DNF.

With a solid day of action on Saturday, REM then moved into the Sunday events where again REM showed some good pace and some potential at a number of good results. In qualifying the team showed some good pace ending up pole in two classes. REM drivers Kyle Edgar and Scott Jefferies found good pace and qualified pole in Briggs Senior and Briggs Masters respectively.

As the finals began REM’s Briggs Senior pilots got off to a good start while Kyle Edgar lead a majority of the first half of the event. As the halfway point approached Kyle got pushed back through the order by a few drivers and ended up in 10th position at the flag. In the Briggs Masters final, Scott Jefferies was able to bring home a podium spot and the fastest lap of the race but upon technical inspection he was disqualified for the improper head gasket, which ended his weekend in disappointment. Rob Jefferies was 7th and Todd Ricard came home in 6th after he was forced to deal with a mechanical issue during the race. In Micro Max, Liam came through with a better day as he finished up in the seventh position. The Rotax senior class saw Kevin Monteith end up in 5th, Kieran Oxley in 17th, Taylor Gates in 14th and Matthew Vitelli in 22nd overall.

Overall the team had a solid weekend but hopes to improve in one months time in Trois Rivieres for the street race. For more information please contact info@racingedgemotorsports.com or by phone at 416-671-7990
