ECKC: Thomas Nepveu Dominates in Micro Max; Sebastien Alvarez claims Mini Max victory on Foreign Soil

Race #3 for the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship hit the track of a packed house at Goodwood Kartways on Saturday. A race day full of action wreaked havoc on many competitors, opening the top of the podium for some new drivers, while others continued to dominate.

Micro Max

In 2014 Thomas Nepveu (SH Racing/FA Kart) has been the guy to beat in Rotax Micro-Max as he has won a majority of the Canadian races so far this season. He continued this fine form at Goodwood, posting the fastest time in Qualifying before winning the Prefinal.

From the start of the Final Nepveu was once again untouchable, ultimately winning the race by nearly six seconds over the second place finisher. Justin Arseneau (PSL Karting/CRG) and Jeremy Tallon (KMS/Birel) had a race long battle with Tallon taking the position and Arseneau settling for third. Gianluca Savaglio (Goodwood/Intrepid) had a tough race finishing in fourth of Austin Boyle (Goodwood/Intrepid) who finished in the top-five in his first ECKC event of the season.

Mini Max

The top of the Mini Max field was completely different from the first round as both the d’Orlando brothers as well as David Morales and Lachlan Defrancesco couldn’t attend due to a conflict in their schedules. Coming into the Goodwood round the favourites were Mexican Sebastian Alvarez (PSL Karting/CRG), Xavier Harris (Goodwood/Intrepid) and Ryan Macdermid (TonyKart).

Alvarez took pole in Qualifying and won the Prefinal which was very impressive considering the Mexican driver was quick to adapt to such a technical circuit. Alvarez would then go on to take the win in the Final as well. Running second most of the race, Harris was challenged by MacDermid in the closing laps, but a last lap pass helped him regain the posting and stand on the second step of the podium as MacDermid was third after starting from the rear.
