The 2014 Coupe du Quebec headed east for stop two of their 2014 championship as the series returned to the KCR Karting facility, near Quebec City. After the successful kickoff two weeks prior in St-Hilaire, KCR offered another challenge to drivers as it was the first time the series raced there in years.
The weekend featured a handful of new race winners setting up a great championship hunt in most of the classes on hand, while a few drivers have been able to break away from their competitors.
Coming off the heels of his huge Eastern Canadian Karting Championship victory at Mosport, Christophe Paquet (KCR-PSL/CRG) scored another win in Rotax Senior after Jesse Lazare (SHR/FA Kart) and Tommy Lemaire-Ouellet (PSL/CRG) tangled in a three-way battle for the lead. The action allowed Maxime Bousieres (CRG) and Dave Laplante (FA Kart) to move into podium positions, finishing second and third.
In Rotax Junior it was the other Lupien brother scoring the victory as Samuel bettered his brother Cedrik to take the win, with Charles Robin finishing third and completing a second straight SHR/FA Kart podium sweep. Thierry Cote (PSL/CRG) and Andrea De Alba (Techno) were fourth and fifth.
It was another thriller in Briggs & Stratton Senior as Maxime Couturier (SC Performance/TonyKart) held off Simon Belanger (FA Kart) and his brother Alexandre Couturier (SC Performance/TonyKart). Round one winner Mathieu Demers (PSL/CRG) was fourth while Tommy Lemaire-Ouellet (PSL/CRG) completed the top-five after starting from the rear of grid.
Thomas Nepveu (SHR/FA Kart) was a repeat-winner from round one as he once again controlled the Micro-Max field. Patrick Woods-Toth (PSL Montreal/CRG) held off Matthew Burke (Zanardi) for second. Justin Arseneau (PSL/CRG) and Louis-Charles Gelinas (PSL Montreal/CRG) rounded out the top-five.
Also doubling up his win count for the year was Alexandre Légaré (PSL/CRG) as he cruised to victory in Mini-Max. Olivier Goupil and Esteban Munoz completed the podium.
Francis Mondou was finally able to race his new SH Racing-TonyKart and he brought it home with a win in DD2 Masters, besting Alain St-Louis (CRG) and Étienne Lasalle (KCR/CRG) while SH winner Dany St-Hilaire (PSL/CRG) was fourth. In DD2, Dominic LeGrand (CRG) won ahead of Samuel Guérin (CRG).
Finally, another family duo happened in Briggs & Stratton Masters as Eric Beltrami (CRG) got the better of Jean Beltrami with Guy Savard third.
The series will resume in three weeks time at SRA Karting in St-Roch de l’Achigan for round three of the series as the final standalone event before joining the ECKC for the final two rounds in Trois-Rivieres and Mont-Tremblant.
