The opening round of the 2014 Coupe du Quebec was on track this past weekend at the SH Karting facility, just east on Montreal. Under beautiful blue skies and near perfect temperatures drivers and those in attendance were rewarded and in turn the action on track was equally exciting.
Taking a seat back in a go-kart after a season off to pursue his car racing career, 2012 ASN Canadian National Karting Champion Jesse Lazare (SH Racing/FA Kart) wasted no time getting up to speed in Rotax Senior. Vowing to take another shot for a second Canadian title, Lazare used this weekend to shake down his 2014 SHR kart and earn his first punch towards the Canadian championships.
Taking on a class that included defending Coupe du Quebec Rotax Senior Champion Olivier Bedard, now with PSL Karting aboard a CRG Kart, Tommy Lemaire-Ouellet (PSL/CRG), Christophe Paquet (KCR/CRG), and Maxime Couturier (SC Performance/TonyKart), Lazare was in cruise control all day Sunday and easily scored the victory after shrugging off an early push from Bedard in the Final.
Bedard would end up second with Paquet completing the podium in his Canadian Rotax Senior debut. We expect a good year from this rookie senior. Lemaire and Couturier rounded the top-five.
