Waterloo Regional Kart Club Kicks off the 2015 Racing Season

After a long winter of anticipation the Waterloo Regional Kart Club (WRKC) racers were all anxious to get the season underway on the first two Saturday’s in May. The club was excited to see so many familiar faces as the members lined up for registration. What was even more exciting was to see so many new members who showed up to start their racing careers.

The first race weekend was sponsored by Highway #5 Esso, our spec fuel supplier. This station was founded in 1911 and has been our fuel supplier for the past 5 years. The club was happy to have them show support for our members. It didn’t take long for the racers to shake off the effects of the long winter break. There was exciting racing in every class. The new rookie drivers who received their licenses just the week before showed plenty of promise and by all indications it won’t be long and they will working their way quickly to the front of the grid. The top 5 finishers in each class are listed below.

The second race of the season also turned out to be a great success. This was the first race of the season to use the WRKC inverted heat format to determine the starting positions for the final races for each class. This racing format really puts an emphasis on learning to make passes quickly and without incidence. To have a good finish every driver has to execute well on every lap. This format makes for exciting racing for the drivers and all the spectators.
The race day sponsor was Sharpie Art by Darren Dryden. Darren is no stranger to kart racers in Ontario as he has been competing and winning races and championships for the a number of years with the WRKC. In the last couple of years he has combined his love racing and his artist skills to develop some great art work that he had apply to just about any surface. His works of art can be seen on karts, helmets, dirt bikes, skate boards, and the list goes on and on.
