Gary Carlton returns to ride the bricks and bumps on the waterfront

Schedule Information for 12th Monaco de Trois-Rivières
Eastern Canadian Karting Championship
The 12th Annual Monaco de Trois-Rivières is now just three days away and teams and drivers will begin the trek to the famed waterfront prior to that as many are expected from far and wide. Perhaps appropriate in a city named Trois-Rivières, drivers will be on hand from three distinct groups this weekend. Full season schedule drivers will attend for either race five of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship or the third event of Club de Karting de l’Est du Quebec, while still others attend for the single event itself - one of the most storied in North American karting.

Last season the event drew upwards of 20,000 spectators along the city streets and waterfront as some exciting changes brought the event to the next level in racing. An extended 14-turn, 1.2km layout was a huge success, and even more changes are set to debut this year - prime among them being Friday night practice! While the event has always been single-race format, this year will see the drama and excitement build over three days beginning Friday, July 23rd. Gates open at 1:30, Registration opens at 2pm, and Open Practice begins at 4pm with drivers getting their first chance to start laying down rubber.

Three more practice sessions are scheduled for Saturday, before the day ends with timed qualifying beginning at 3:30pm. The entire range of Rotax Max offerings will be in the paddock, along with Honda Junior, Senior, and Masters; Rotax Masters, and ProShifter. Teams will then have evening and overnight to feel content or begin making drastic moves to change their fortunes prior to racing as Sunday will bring two more practice sessions in the morning before Prefinals at 10pm and Finals beginning at 1pm. Full schedule details are found here.

Competitors should definitely take note of two specific regulations for the Monaco de Trois-Rivières: first, every trailer/pit location must have a minimum 5lb. fire extinguisher or the team/driver will not be allowed to set up a pit spot, and the regulation is enforced by city fire officials who move from tent to tent throughout the weekend; secondly, as the surface is new, it is strictly forbidden to spill oil or gas on the asphalt. In the event of an accidental spill, teams and drivers are asked to absorb the spill immediately. Full Supplemental Regulations can be found in the Rules & Regulations section at eckc.ca.

Race Facts: Quickly becoming the most glamorous event in all of Canada, the Monaco de Trois-Rivières sets the stage for the fifth race of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship and the third event of Club de Karting de l’Est du Quebec. As if racing through the streets of Canada’s most passionate motorsports city wasn’t enough, the picture-perfect backdrop combined with the unique street circuit layout makes this event a highlight on the 2010 Canadian karting calendar.
