ECKC Event 3 Preview, Monaco de Trois-Rivières |
|
The Eastern Canadian Karting Championship resumes its debut season today as the 12th Monaco de Trois-Rivières begins in beautiful Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The third event of the series will produce the fifth race, one that will be run in conjunction with the third event of Club de Karting de l’Est du Quebec’s Vega Cup. Karts hit the temporary street course this evening for practice before additional sessions and qualifying Saturday, and Prefinals and Finals on Sunday. The full range of Rotax Max Challenge karts began filling the paddock Thursday, along with Junior, Senior and Masters Honda, and the always fan-friendly ICC shifterkarts.
Rotax Junior and Senior drivers continue the quest to earn a trip to compete in the Rotax International Open this fall in Zuera, Spain, with Luke Chudleigh and Marco Di Leo heading the categories respectively. In Junior, Chudleigh continues to ride the strength of his Prime Kartsport/CRG sweep at Goodwood and his 600 points lead Greenspeed/TonyKart driver Austin Milwain by 65 points. J3 Competition/Kosmic driver Alessandra Madrigal is third with 520 points, just ahead of Goodwood/Intrepid race three winner Bryson Schutte at 495 and PSL Karting/CRG race four winner Jesse Lazare at 490.
Di Leo leads the Marigold Ford-Lincoln senior tally, also with a pair of race wins, his coming on Sunday at both Goodwood and Mosport and leading to 690 points. PSL Karting/CRG star Pier-Luc Ouellette is second at 575, with Lorenzo Mandarino producing a strong debut campaign for the Pserra/Tecno chassis in third at 525 points. Former Junior National Champion Kevin King is fourth for PSL Karting/CRG, his 515 points standing ten better than PSL/Ontario’s Pearce Herder and Goodwood/Intrepid’s Andrew Waring.
Another Herder leads Rotax DD2, as Pearce’s older brother Kyle has taken three podiums to date and sits with 670 points for PSL. Goodwood/Intrepid driver Stefano Romano is having a strong run in his first season of DD2 with 580 points, and race one winner Cory Luciano is third having earned 535 points for Pserra/Tecno. Race three winner Enrico Menotti is just ten points back for Prime Kartsport/CRG, and Greenspeed/TonyKart race four winner Darren White is fifth at 495 points. Masters DD2 karts race in the same field, and in that category Prime Kartsport/CRG driver Stuart Clark continues to lead after taking the first three race wins. PSL/Ontario driver Paul Carvalho is second after winning race four, and Pascal Garceau is third after reeling off four straight podium runs.
The youngest of Rotax categories have drivers looking to earn trips to both the Canadian National Championships compliments of SRA Karting International and the opening event of the 2011 Florida Winter Tour compliments of the FWT. In Micro-Max, Goodwood/Intrepid driver Karter Hickling leads PSL Karting/CRG driver James Dean Laderoute 745 to 725, with fellow Intrepid driver Jordan Slipacoff in third at 555 points. TonyKart driver Zachary Claman DeMelo swept the Mosport event and leads the Mini-Max category with 725 points. Goodwood/Intrepid teammates Marco Signoretti and Kyle Doma are second and third with 645 and 520 points respectively. PSL Karting/CRG driver Gavin Reichelt is fourth at 510, and JP Hutchinson will be looking to advance from fifth in his new Greenspeed/TonyKart this weekend. He currently has 465 points.
In the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship Honda Challenge presented by Vega, Junior, Senior and Masters drivers are looking to win three-day driving courses in a Mustang GT at ICAR. The Senior category has JDL Distributing/Firstkart driver Kevin Monteith on top with a perfect four-for-four record and 805 points. K‘n’K Karts’ Jon Treadwell is second at 680 points with CF Racing’s Cory Cacciavillani third at 615. In Honda Junior the top three have each won a race, and PSL/Ontario driver Sean McPhee is on top because he’s won two! His 740 points lead race three winner Trevor Rancier’s 690 and race four winner Tyler Kashak’s 685. Another PSL/Ontario driver leads Masters as Andrew Massey has 600 points, Goodwood/Intrepid driver Jamie MacArthur has 585, and Team funracers.ca drivers Fred Jordan and Mark Kellett are tied at 525.
The shifterkarts have had just one weekend of ECKC racing and after a pair of starts at Mosport Josh Adams is the point leader. Adams was second in both races at Mosport, and he is a veteran of the Monaco de Trois-Rivières that has been on the podium at the waterfront. Fellow CRG driver Dominic Legrand is second, just five points back, and Legrand has raced the event many times as well. Addision Rayner makes it a CRG sweep of the top three with 295 points.
