The second half of the double-header weekend at Mosport International Karting featured much nicer weather conditions for the opening round of the 2014 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. With the rumble of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series roaring by on the CTMP track, Sunday was full of octane at the entire Mosport facility including excellent kart racing.

The Mini-Max division this weekend was dominated by a pair of brothers from New York with a Canadian connection. Michael and Nicholas d’Orlando appeared lightyears ahead of their competition at Mosport and in both finals the two went head-to-head for victory in their Koene USA prepared TonyKarts.

After Michael scored the win on Saturday, the pressure was increased from Nicholas on Sunday with the younger brother pushing his brother to his limits. With Michael leading into corner five on the final lap, he dove to the very inside of the corner to defend his position as Nicholas pushed up to the braking zone before swinging out wide for a better run through the corner. The pressure forced Michael to hop up and over the curb and miss his apex, allowing Nicholas to cross under and into the lead and secure the victory, a rare occurrence when racing against his older brother.

Not to be left out, American David Morales (BENIK Kart) outlasted Alexandre Légaré (PSL/CRG) to claim the final podium position. The two raced hard and clean for the entire twelve lap Final. Ryan MacDermid (TonyKart) rounded out the top-five.

Round two of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship will be held at Goodwood Kartways near Stouffville, Ontario on June 27-29.
