Adams rolls through legendary Moss Corner in his Formula Car debut

Kosmic Ontario, Monaco de Trois-Rivičres Preview
The Ontario Kosmic pairing of Matt France and Michael Adams returns to action this weekend as both are in Trois-Rivičres, Quebec, for the famed Monaco de Trois-Rivičres. They are contesting the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship and looking forward to three days of running the streets. Sitting down on the eve of day one, it was quickly apparent that both were thrilled to get back to a temp track, and excited about the weekend ahead.

“Monaco is a fantastic track, full of little bumps and tricks,” said Adams, who raced at Trois-Rivičres last season. “Drivers need to quickly adapt to the close quarters of the street circuit and the course is not forgiving, as I found out the hard way last season! There’s just no room for error, yet it’s an absolute blast!”

While many karters took to club racing and other series’ in looking to stay sharp during a June break, Adams began to follow in the footsteps of his racing family with his first formula car race at Mosport. Contesting an F1200 triple-header, Adams finished seventh, sixth and fourth at the BARC Canada Day Grand Prix of Ontario.

“Racing the F1200 was a total rush!” Adams said afterward. “Flying around the Mosport circuit was amazing. To think of all the history and great drivers that used to and still do race there, you can see why they love it. The new environment was quite a change for me initially, but there wasn’t a session that I didn’t go faster than the previous one. By the end of the weekend I felt really comfortable in the car. It was handling great and I was competing in the top group. I was very happy with the results and I need to thank my parents for the opportunity and Bill Vallis from Vallis Motorsports for helping me develop as a driver and putting a fast car under me.”

For his part, France truly took a break during the layoff, but is a bonafide veteran of road running that should be quickly on the mark Saturday. “I raced the SuperNats last season and have also raced Barrie and Windsor, when they had street events,” he said. “I have always liked street races so I have a good feeling going into this one. We’ve upgraded a few parts since Mosport and have fixed the engine problem that kept us in the back half of the top ten.”

While known for a steady approach and running consistently over a race weekend, France said he turns the tide when it comes to street racing and really gets after it. “A street course is a great track to be aggressive on and if you can get close to the barriers you can find time on other drivers,” he said. “Of course, as always, the best way to stay out of trouble is to be ahead of it, so I hope with the upgrades we can improve on our Mosport pace and get back to the speed we showed at Goodwood.”

France has been inside the top ten at each event this season and currently sits ninth in DD2 points with 375. Adams is sixth in Rotax Junior with 465 points, highlighted by a pair of podium runs at Goodwood opening weekend. Qualifying for the Monaco is Saturday afternoon with both prefinals and finals on Sunday.
